BIM is a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a building. It is unique in that it operates as a live document and serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a building, merging the contractors and stakeholders with design and construction information so all parties can work together cohesively. The elements in BIM are the virtual equivalents of the actual building parts and pieces being used to build a building. The BIM model can contain information/data on design, construction, logistics, operation, maintenance, budgets, schedules and much more. BIM almost entirely eliminates human error and as a result saves on costs, resources and time. BIM not only allows for a smooth construction process, but offers sales agents and developers stream lined lease and sales settlements too. This is largely in part due to buyers having the ability to view the building before construction is complete.
